Poetry winners each receive $10,000, and their publisher $2,000 for promotion of the titles. Peerbaye received the poetry prize for her collection “Tell: poems for a girlhood” (Pedlar Press), which was based on the case of slain Vancouver Island teen Reena Virk. He was recently shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Literary Award for short fiction. Hardcastle was awarded the prize in the book category for his debut short story collection “Debris” (Biblioasis), about the lives of those existing on the fringes of society. TORONTO – Toronto authors Kevin Hardcastle and Soraya Peerbaye are the English-language winners of the 2016 Trillium Book Award honouring Ontario-based writers.
